About ICSI Procedure
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is an advanced form of IVF used in cases of male infertility. In this procedure, a single healthy sperm is selected and directly injected into a mature egg to assist with fertilization. ICSI can overcome many sperm-related issues that may prevent natural conception.
At Rooh Al-Hayat, ICSI is performed in our state-of-the-art laboratory and is often recommended for patients with low sperm count, poor motility, or previous fertilization failure in standard IVF.
How the ICSI Procedure Works
ICSI is performed as part of an IVF cycle. After ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval, a single sperm is selected under a high-powered microscope and injected directly into the egg using a delicate glass needle. This bypasses the need for the sperm to penetrate the egg on its own, which is often a challenge in male infertility cases.
After injection, fertilized eggs (now embryos) are monitored for development. Once ready, the best-quality embryo is transferred to the uterus.
Who Can Benefit from ICSI?
ICSI is typically recommended for:
Men with very low sperm count or motility
Sperm with abnormal shape (morphology)
Obstructive azoospermia (no sperm in the ejaculate)
Use of frozen or surgically retrieved sperm (Micro-TESE)
Cases of unexplained infertility or previous IVF failure
